Analysis: Tech stocks are becoming more volatile; the number of big intra-year swings in semiconductor and software ETFs has hit a record high.

Odaily Planet Daily reports that The Kobeissi Letter posted on X that the technology sector is currently experiencing some of the most severe volatility seen in years. Within the year, the semiconductor ETF SMH and the software ETF IGV have already had 34 trading days in which the daily percentage change was greater than or equal to 4%, which is 278% higher than the 9 times recorded throughout all of 2024 up to that point, and exceeds the cumulative count of the past 7 full years. Among them, SMH saw 3 days in July alone with a daily decline exceeding 4%; 3x leveraged semiconductor ETF SOXL has had 18 trading days since June with a daily percentage change greater than or equal to 10%.
