BlockBeats message, July 15: Rob Witoff, head of the Coinbase platform, said that currently 95% to 100% of the company’s code has been written or assisted by large language models (LLMs), and that almost all employees use AI every day. Compared with the roughly 40% of code written by AI disclosed in February this year, this figure has more than doubled.

Witoff said that in critical areas such as core cryptography, the company still mainly relies on human review, while internal prototype development has basically achieved 100% automation. With the widespread adoption of AI, Coinbase can use teams that are smaller and have deeper experience; teams of 2 to 3 people can now handle work that used to require more than 10 people.

He also revealed that most Coinbase engineers currently manage 5 to 10 AI Agents at the same time, and that the overall AI Agents have taken on coding workload equivalent to about 1,200 employees, with expectations that by 2030 the figure may rise to the workload of 100k employees. Previously, Coinbase laid off about 700 people in May this year, accounting for about 14% of its total staff; the company said that AI has significantly improved work efficiency.
