While watching the charts this morning, this $CL breakout came in pretty directly. It had been chopping around near 70.08 for half a day, and many people probably were close to losing patience. Then the moment it surged toward 79.01, +1185.35% was already sitting in the account on the books.
The point I was concerned about at the time was also very real: if it rose too slowly I was afraid it wouldn’t pan out, but if it suddenly accelerated I was worried I wouldn’t be able to hold. The most torturous part of short-term futures is exactly this—your direction might be right, but the process always likes to grind people’s psychology first.
This trade wasn’t as easy as I’d imagined. There were several pullbacks in the middle that were pretty scary, but as long as I didn’t ruin the key rhythm, I didn’t rush into random moves.
Now my stance is very clear: protect the profit first, and leave the rest to the market. Don’t start thinking about eating the whole move the moment you make money. Being able to last longer matters more than eating more in one go.
