Coin World news: OpenAI has begun to move into Apple’s “comfort zone,” planning to roll out its first consumer-grade AI hardware. It is expected to be released as early as this year, with a launch on the market in 2027. The device will be a portable, screenless smart speaker, equipped with a more advanced GPT-live voice system that can hold natural conversations, proactively provide information, and continually learn users’ habits by combining data such as email and environmental sensing—serving as an “AI companion.” It supports features such as controlling smart home devices, playing media, and replying to messages. OpenAI hopes to make it a physical embodiment of ChatGPT. In the future, it also plans to launch AI terminals that can replace smartphones, wearable devices, and home robots. Meanwhile, Apple is suing OpenAI over alleged trade secrets. Court filings show that OpenAI recruited more than 400 employees from Apple, and competition between the two in the AI hardware field is heating up further.

Is OpenAI going to make hardware? This move is pretty interesting—going from pure software to on-device, it feels like they’re trying to secure the entry points.
