Golden Finance reported on July 15, citing Axios and U.S.-Israeli officials. U.S. President Donald Trump said during a recent phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Israeli military should begin redeploying forces out of Syria again, and urged Israel to take similar action in Lebanon. Trump believes that the Israeli military’s presence in the areas it controls in Syria is intensifying regional tensions, which could lead to an escalation of the situation, and told Netanyahu, “They don’t want you there, you should redeploy.” Netanyahu, meanwhile, emphasized that Israel needs to keep a security buffer zone along the border. The report said that the Trump administration has been pushing for months for Israel and Syria to reach a new security arrangement, hoping the Israeli military would gradually withdraw from the Syrian territories it has controlled since the fall of the Assad regime at the end of 2024, but it believes Netanyahu has no intention of making such concessions. In addition, the U.S. has recently been mediating to implement the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire framework, pushing for the Israeli military to withdraw from parts of southern Lebanon, but there remains disagreement over the timeline for the troop withdrawal.
