Crypto界 news: Former Los Angeles County Police Department deputy sheriff Scott Allen Simpkins was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and fined $10k after admitting that he lied to federal investigators in connection with a 2021 extortion case involving cryptocurrency businessman Adam Iza. Simpkins entered a guilty plea on March 17, admitting obstruction of justice. After pleading guilty, he resigned from his role in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau. Prosecutors said Simpkins falsely denied witnessing Iza threaten the victim with live ammunition at Iza’s Bell Air home. Prosecutors said Iza placed four to five rounds of 9mm live ammunition on the table and, while threatening the victim, rotated one of the bullets, demanding a $25k transfer. Simpkins and another deputy escorted the victim off the property during the incident. Prosecutors added that Simpkins and the other deputy were each paid $1,400 for the day.
