Golden Finance News reported that on July 15, Israel and Lebanon began the sixth round of negotiations in Rome, Italy, at local time on July 14. The round lasts for two days, and the first day of talks ended in the evening on the same day in Israel’s time. This is the first meeting between the two countries since they signed a framework agreement in Washington, the U.S. capital, last month. It is understood that the focus of this round of negotiations is a pilot program, specifically discussing the detailed implementation plan for the Israel Defense Forces’ first troop withdrawal from two pilot areas in southern Lebanon. Under this plan, Lebanon’s government forces will enter the areas from which the IDF withdraws to ensure that there are no weapons of Hezbollah in the area. Earlier this week, a U.S. military delegation met in Beirut with senior leadership of the Lebanese armed forces to hold preliminary discussions on implementing the withdrawal plan. On the afternoon of July 14, Israel’s Foreign Minister Saar said that Israel is ready to move forward with implementing the pilot areas and hopes that the discussions in Rome will help drive this process.
