Crypto news: Wu Shuo learned that the governments of the UK and the US issued a joint stablecoin statement through the Transatlantic Future of Markets Working Group, saying they will work to align the two countries’ regulatory frameworks in appropriate areas and support stablecoins for cross-border payments, settlement, and capital markets. Both sides believe that stablecoins used as money should be supported in full at least at a 1:1 ratio by high-quality liquid assets; the reserve assets must be segregated from the issuer’s own funds, and holders’ timely redemption must be ensured. If the issuer enters bankruptcy, restructuring, or liquidation proceedings, holders should have clear, protected legal claim rights to the reserve assets that rank ahead of other creditors.

With the US and the UK teaming up to set the tone this time, stablecoins are finally set to move from back-alley practices into the mainstream of regulatory compliance. With reserve segregation plus priority redemption rights, retail users at least don’t need to worry that if the issuer runs off, they’ll get nothing back.

Priority over other creditors... This clause is too crucial. Previously, stablecoin holders were basically ranked last in bankruptcy cases, but now their legal status has been clearly upgraded.

1:1 high-quality liquid-asset backed issuance—sounds like U.S. Treasury reverse repo? USDT and USDC, you’d better check your reserve structure right now.

For cross-border payments, the traditional SWIFT can’t sleep—stablecoin settlements arrive in seconds, and the cost is an order of magnitude lower, too.
