Why do some people get annoyed as soon as they see grand narratives?

In 2019, it was dubbed the “5G Year,” with the core slogan: 4G changes life, 5G changes society.
The overall tone was: speed crushing 4G, latency approaching 0, everything connected, empowering all industries
1. Ultra-high speed (eMBB) theoretical peak: 10Gbps (1.25GB/s), 100 times that of 4G.
In plain terms: one 10G movie—15 minutes on 4G, only 9 seconds on 5G.
Experience: 4K/8K ultra-high-definition video, cloud gaming, VR/AR instant loading on CGTN.
2. Ultra-low latency (uRLLC) end-to-end latency: 1ms (4G≈50ms), so fast that “you can’t even blink in time.”
Key use cases: autonomous driving (braking response compressed from 1.4 meters to 2.8 centimeters), remote surgery, industrial automation
3. Massive connectivity (mMTC) up to 1 million devices per square kilometer, supporting everything connected.
Key areas: smart cities, smart homes, drones, industrial IoT.
The “big pie” (application scenarios) that was drawn: personal consumer phones—no need to change SIM cards or phone numbers; plans starting at 128 yuan from November.
Entertainment: cloud VR/AR, 8K live streaming, immersive games, holographic video calls.
Industry transformation (key promotion): Transportation: autonomous driving, remote driving, vehicle networking, 5G buses/high-speed rail.
Healthcare: remote surgery, 5G emergency care, VR consultations, mobile ICU.
Industry: smart manufacturing, wireless factories, AR remote operations and maintenance, machine vision quality inspection.
Cities: smart public security, smart energy, environmental monitoring, drone logistics.
Summary: 5G will reshape the economy and society, spawning tens of trillions of new industries.
Now when looking back at 5G, besides the higher phone bills, the more expensive 5G phones, the slower 4G, and increased operator costs, there’s nothing else that’s changed compared with the 4G era.
Let me mention something recently very popular: the “digging-your-own-feces law.” After 5 years, when you look at the digging-your-own-feces law again, maybe it will be about the same as 5G—except that A-shares will trap you, there’s nothing much that changes.
