SK Group chairman Choi Tae-won said, “At present, costs related to artificial intelligence (AI) are too high. All parties should work together to find a technological breakthrough and reduce these related costs.” On the 13th, local time, while appearing on a program, Choi Tae-won said, “At the moment, semiconductor prices remain high, and supply cannot be sufficiently guaranteed, which is placing a heavy burden on the industry. Meanwhile, expanding capacity involves fixed delivery timelines, so this problem cannot be completely resolved in the short term.” In response to this situation, Choi Tae-won outlined the group’s plans: As one of the three major national-level ultra-large key projects promoted by the South Korean government, SK will build AI data centers with a total capacity of 15 gigawatts in phases. Choi Tae-won said, “We will focus on building a new type of AI data center that can generate Token computing power with lower operating costs and higher efficiency. We are currently communicating and negotiating with all cooperation partners on this.” He also added, “When the group initially set an investment plan on the scale of $1 trillion, we did not anticipate the scope of the business would expand to the level it has today, and the explosion of the AI industry has made this plan a reality. The AI industry requires massive spending, so it is necessary to build data centers of a certain scale or above to provide support.”
