A study found that the higher your income, the more you love buying counterfeit luxury goods.

They especially like high-quality replica bags from top brands such as Hermès and Chanel, particularly iconic models that are instantly recognizable at a glance, like the Hermès Birkin and Chanel’s CF.
Moreover, when the same style has multiple replica versions, they often prefer the one with the higher price.
The researchers believe that high-income groups buy high-end A-grade counterfeits to obtain the identity value brought by the brand at a lower cost.
At the same time, their social status is already fairly secure, so they don’t need to prove anything with a bag, which means they are less constrained by feelings of shame—and are therefore more willing to buy fakes.
By contrast, for middle-income groups, they care about what others think of them. If their counterfeit goods are exposed, the resulting shame and negative evaluations are something they can’t bear—so they’re actually the least likely to buy.
