Concern after the U.S. government transferred 2,874.9 BTC
CoinDesk消息:the U.S. government has transferred 2,874.9 BTC to Coinbase Prime, worth about $183 million. The transaction data was provided by Galaxy Research. The transfer took place between Bitcoin blocks 957,893 and 957,894, from a government-controlled address. This transfer means the total amount of Bitcoin sent today by U.S. authorities to Coinbase Prime is close to 4,000 BTC. The move has sparked speculation in the market about whether these Bitcoins are being prepared for liquidation or internal custody operations.
In March 2025, the government signed an executive order to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve, instructing the Treasury Department to manage it. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent previously said the government would not directly buy Bitcoin for the strategic reserve; instead, it would retain seized Bitcoins rather than sell them. This Coinbase Prime transfer has therefore led investors to question whether the U.S. government may be preparing for a potential sale.
Notably, these Bitcoins can be traced back to multiple unrelated cases (such as BTC-e, etc.). It is extremely unusual for the government to transfer these Bitcoins at the same time.
