Wu Says learned that the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California said that former Los Angeles County deputy Scott Allen Simpkins was sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined $10k for obstructing a federal investigation into crypto businessman Adam Iza. The prosecution said Simpkins provided private security to Iza, who claimed to be “The Godfather,” and witnessed him threatening activity planners with live ammunition and extorting $25k, but then lied to the FBI and prosecutors about not seeing ammunition or funds transfers. Iza previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges involving wire fraud, tax evasion, and bitcoin-related robbery and kidnapping.
