Golden Finance reported, on July 14, according to CNN, that U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday described the U.S. restarting bombing operations against Iran as a “military conflict,” denying that this marks a new long-term phase of fighting, but he refused to say how long the conflict will last. Trump said, “We have to take the action that we’re taking right now. We have significantly degraded their capability, but they will resist for a while.” Although the fighting has already far exceeded the four-to-six-week operational timeline initially set by the U.S. government, Trump played down the possibility that the conflict could last indefinitely. He said, “We fought in Vietnam for 19 years. We’ve been here for only four months, so I think we’ve done a lot of work.” Trump did not provide details on how he plans to ultimately end the war, but insisted that he would ultimately be able to negotiate an agreement with Iran. However, he acknowledged that an agreement in the short term is unlikely.
