Coin Realm News: The U.S. has added Cuba’s Ministry of Tourism to its ever-expanding sanctions list, dealing yet another blow to one of Cuba’s main economic pillars. According to guidance updated on Monday by the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, Cuba’s Ministry of Tourism was one of 10 institutions and entities added to the sanctions that day. As the U.S. has cut off large-scale fuel supplies to Cuba—forcing resorts to close, airlines to cancel flights, and international operators to walk away from contracts—the number of international visitors to the island, just 90 miles off Florida, has fallen to a historic low. Cuba’s power grid is also under mounting pressure, with two nationwide blackouts occurring just last week alone. Under pressure from the Trump administration, Cuba’s government rolled out nearly 200 economic reform measures last month, including allowing new tourism projects to achieve 100% foreign ownership and granting operators greater autonomy to import the supplies they need without going through a government-led distribution system. The U.S. says these reforms are “long overdue and ultimately amount to little more than a superficial smokescreen.”

The sanction list keeps getting longer, the power grid collapsed twice in two weeks—how will ordinary people spend their summer?

Trump talks about smoke bombs, Havana talks about self-rescue, and foreign capital caught in the middle is also figuring out whether this investment can break even.
