Apple revises its Mac chip roadmap, accelerating AI chip development

On July 12 local time, tech reporter Mark Gurman wrote that Apple is adjusting its Mac chip roadmap to meet the demands of AI development. After releasing a base M6 chip this fall, Apple will for the first time skip high-end models such as M6 Pro, M6 Max, and M6 Ultra and move directly into M7 series development. M7 is expected to be released in the first half of 2027, while M7 Ultra will be launched in 2028. It is reported that M7 Ultra will significantly boost AI performance, aiming to come close to dedicated AI accelerators such as NVIDIA Blackwell and others, and could become the basis for Apple’s next-generation AI server chip. In addition, Apple has begun developing M8 and subsequent chips with stronger AI capabilities; its 2028 products will use a 1.4-nanometer process. (Jiemian)
