Deep Tide TechFlow message: On July 13, Intel (INTC.O) will invest €5 billion (about $5.7 billion) to expand its factory in Ireland, seeking to recapture a leading position in manufacturing amid the AI boom.

In a statement, Intel said the investment will expand its production capacity at the Laxleslip Park facility on the outskirts of Dublin, as part of the company’s plan to increase production of data center processors. The expansion project will boost production capacity for products including its flagship Xeon server processors, while also moving forward with research and development activities.

In a statement, Intel Executive Vice President Naga Chandrasekaran said the move is also part of efforts to improve delivery capabilities for customers of Intel’s foundry business. Intel’s foundry business mainly produces chips for other technology companies, and it is an important component of the company’s revitalization strategy, aimed at strengthening competition with rivals such as TSMC.
