Intel will invest €5 billion to expand its factories in Ireland
BlockBeats, July 13 — Intel (INTC.O) will spend €5 billion (about $5.7 billion) to expand its factory in Ireland, aiming to regain dominance in manufacturing amid the AI boom.
In a statement, Intel said the investment will increase its production capacity at the Laxeslip Park campus on the outskirts of Dublin, as part of the company’s plans to boost output of data center processors. The expansion project will raise production capacity for products including its flagship Xeon server processors, while also advancing R&D activities.
Intel Executive Vice President Naga Chandrasekaran said in a statement that the move is also part of Intel Foundry’s plans to improve its delivery capacity to customers. Intel Foundry primarily manufactures chips for other technology companies, and it is an important component of the company’s turnaround strategy, aimed at strengthening competition with rivals such as TSMC.
