Many people think they can endure hardship, but in reality they can only handle physical toil. These kinds of suffering may not be ones they can truly bear—such as the hardship of independent thinking and hard work, the suffering of endurance, restraint, and self-discipline, the loneliness of reading and studying, or the pain of swallowing anger and sacrificing dignity. Yet it is precisely these kinds of hardship that genuinely widen the gap between people.
