Abstract generation in progress
On July 13, Japan convenience store chain Lawson will launch a JPYC (yen-pegged stablecoin) payment pilot at its Tokyo Gateway City store in early August. The pilot is being carried out in collaboration with digital asset wallet provider Hashport. This is the first time in Japan that stablecoin payments have been tested by connecting them to a POS system.
By integrating with the POS system, purchase data such as the number of items and payment time can be collected and managed within the existing store management system. Lawson plans to evaluate the stability of the stablecoin system integration with the POS and the time required for actual payments through this experiment, before deciding whether to roll it out nationwide.
