According to Nikkei, Lawson convenience store chain will, in early August, partner with digital asset wallet company HashPort at its Gateway City store in Takanawa, Minato City, Tokyo, to conduct a yen-stablecoin JPYC payment trial. Consumers will be able to complete payments via a mobile wallet barcode. Lawson said this is the first time in Japan that stablecoin payments will be linked with a POS system; the trial will test system stability and actual payment processing time, and based on the results, determine whether to formally introduce it.
