Trump Says U.S. Forces Launched a “Severe Strike” Against Iran; the Strait of Hormuz “Remains Open”

Jin10 Data, July 12: On July 12 local time, U.S. President Trump said that the U.S. carried out a “severe strike” against Iran the previous night. That day, in an interview, Trump said that the day before, the U.S. and Iran had reached an agreement, and that Iran had “originally been prepared to give up everything,” but a few hours later, a vessel was attacked by a drone. The U.S. military said that after a merchant ship was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. launched a new round of strikes on about 140 military targets in Iran. This is the third time the U.S. has carried out strikes against Iran within a week. There are differing views among parties regarding the navigability of the Strait of Hormuz. On July 12, Iran’s Strait of Hormuz Ports Authority issued an announcement on social media stating that the Strait of Hormuz is currently not navigable. Trump, however, said, “For the U.S., the Strait of Hormuz is still open.” (CCTV News)
