Meta faces a $1.4 trillion fine, accused of harming minors’ rights

Golden Finance reports that the United States’ four states have jointly accused Meta of using addictive algorithms to lure minors, while concealing their negative impact on teenagers’ mental health, seeking damages of up to $14 trillion; 29 states across the U.S. have already filed lawsuits on the matter. At the same time, the European Commission, under the Digital Services Act, has released a preliminary report requiring Meta to modify addictive design features such as “autoplay” and “infinite scrolling,” or else face a hefty fine of 6% of its worldwide annual revenue. Meta denies the allegations and says it will continue to fight the case. (Global Times)
