Today I’m not going to talk sense—I’m going to tell a real story.
I used to bring someone along to do trading.
At the very beginning, he was ridiculously obedient. His positions were locked down tight, and his stop losses were hung on tightly. Every day he would make a few dozen U—maybe even just a few dozen—and he would still transfer it to a cold wallet the right way.
He told me himself: “I used to really not believe all this. But now I think the rules are seriously fucking good.”
Just like that, in two months, he went from a few thousand U to a few ten thousand U.
During that time, his state was clearly different. No anxiety anymore. No getting up in the middle of the night to check the charts. Even when reviewing each day, he would hum to himself.
I thought he was stable—he’d made it through the hardest part.
Later, one day, he suddenly ran over to tell me excitedly: “I heard about an insider coin. Go all-in and do it.”
I asked him: “What about your position sizing? Your stop loss? Did you forget?”
He said: “This time it’s different. The message is very accurate.”
I didn’t try to talk him out of it anymore. Because I was too clear: at a time like this, no matter what you say, it’s useless. The voice in his head that said, “This time it’s different,” had already covered up all the rules.
The next day, he didn’t send me a screenshot of his review.
The day after that, he sent me just two words: “It blew up.”
Later he added more money, trying to get it back. It blew up again.
After that, he deleted me.
Not because I did anything wrong. It was because he didn’t want to face the version of himself who hadn’t held the rules.
Is this story very ordinary? Ordinary enough that there’s no twist, no miracle.
But it made me more and more certain of one thing—
The biggest enemy in trading has never been the market. It’s the “this time it’s different” voice in your heart.
If you control it once, you can live once. If you listen to it once, you might end up paying back with months—or even years—of time.
When the rules don’t protect you, the market will harvest you.
Simple, and fair.
