Deep Tide TechFlow message: On July 12, according to Bitcoin com News, a court in São Paulo state, Brazil ruled that Coinbase must refund a self-custody wallet user approximately $100k and the corresponding legal interest, because unauthorized funds were transferred out of the user’s wallet. Although Coinbase argued that the wallet’s private keys are controlled by the user and the platform should not be held responsible, the court found that it failed to prove the transactions were initiated by the user and also failed to adequately explain the relevant security measures. The ruling may set a precedent for determining liability for self-custody wallet service providers.
