On July 10, 2026, Micron Technology (MU) became the focus of the US stock semiconductor sector. That day, the stock’s intraday high reached $1,035.50, with its gain briefly exceeding 6%; it ultimately closed at $991.64, up $42.84 for the day, a gain of 4.52%. Alongside trading volume of about 40.8 million shares and trading value of more than $41 billion, this surge-and-pullback move sparked intense market discussions about the outlook for memory chips.
What is the direct catalyst for the rally? Micron’s rise on July 10 was not an isolated event. On the same day, the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.30%, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index climbed more than 3%, and chip stocks overall continued their upward trend. Micron’s gains ranked among the top in the memory segment—SanDisk rose 7.59%, Western Digital rose 5.04%, and Seagate Technology rose 3.50%.
The news-related factor that directly triggered the surge was Micron’s announcement that it would significantly expand its US-based manufacturing capacity. The company raised its previously announced US domestic expansion plan to $250 billion—an increase of $50 billion from the original commitment. The related projects include multiple factory-building plans across New York State, Idaho, and Virginia, with overall spending expected to continue through 2035. In addition, Micron said it would separately allocate $3 billion to strengthen the domestic semiconductor supply chain, including providing $500 million in strategic financing to Taiwan’s silicon wafer supplier GlobalWafers, and signing a 10-year raw materials supply agreement.
