Golden Finance reported that on July 12, the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baghaei, introduced the details of a visit by Iran’s foreign minister to Oman and the talks held (on July 12). On July 11, Iran and Oman’s foreign ministers held talks in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The two sides discussed coordination mechanisms for navigation and passage management in the Strait of Hormuz. Legal and technical delegations from both countries attended the talks. Baghaei said the two sides exchanged views mainly on issues including ensuring the safety of Strait of Hormuz shipping, respecting the sovereignty and rights of both countries, and applying international law, and also discussed matters related to Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The Iranian side emphasized that future passage management arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz should be negotiated and formulated by Iran and Oman, fully taking into account the impact of Iran’s military actions in recent months—especially actions by the United States and Israel—on the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei said that Iran and Oman agreed to continue consultations at the political and legal and technical levels in order to reach a shared understanding on the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. It is understood that during some parts of the talks, a delegation from the Qatar government also participated in the discussions. (CCTV International News)
