Amid the GPT-5.6 release boom, OpenAI resets ChatGPT usage limits twice

GPT-5.6 was officially released on July 9, featuring three models: Sol for advanced reasoning and programming tasks, Terra balancing performance and efficiency, and Luna focused on high-efficiency operation. At present, GPT-5.6 has started powering ChatGPT, the OpenAI API, and the integrated desktop app; the new desktop version also adds ChatGPT Work for executing multi-step tasks and an upgraded Codex feature.
OpenAI product lead Tibo Sottiaux said that the surge in demand brought by this release has been unprecedented. Many users have highly praised Sol’s programming capabilities, and some benchmark tests also show its performance surpasses GPT-5.5.
However, there are also users complaining that the usage quota is consumed too quickly, that the desktop interface is confusing, and that there are certain program glitches. The OpenAI team led by Sam Altman and Greg Brockman has been continuously rolling out fixes, including improving quota display, optimizing interface prompts, and making model adjustments, to address the large volume of user feedback.
