This movie really makes you feel on pins and needles! The first half hour of dialogue scenes is so awkward it’s almost cringe—did the screenwriter really give it their all? Comparing it to Shaolin Soccer is completely a mismatch in scale: the characters are flat with no growth arc, and the plot is stitched together from here and there, fragmented and a mess. Most devastating of all, the punchlines feel like they were forcibly shoved into a serious drama, completely detached from the characters’ stories, with none of the natural, smooth comedic vibe that Shaolin Soccer has. You can call it a fantasy film, but it’s not funny at all. Without beating around the bush, this is definitely below-average quality among Stephen Chow’s works, and it’s genuinely disappointing. $ETH
