Middle East war update: Strait of Hormuz shut down, the US and Iran confront head-on

Tensions in the Middle East have officially gotten out of control after Iran challenged President Donald Trump’s ultimatum, pushing the two countries into a spiral of direct military retaliation.
Iran blocks the Strait of Hormuz: Despite the ultimatum demanding the reopening of the seas by the US, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired missiles that hit an international merchant vessel, even though the ship had followed the southern route proposed by Oman. The IRGC said it is closing the Strait of Hormuz indefinitely until the US ends its interference in the region.
US strikes back: Immediately after the attack, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) launched the third consecutive wave of bombing targeting military sites within Iran’s territory. Earlier, President Trump said the ceasefire agreement had ended and put 1,000 missiles on combat readiness status.
Consequences: Oman’s mediation efforts have officially collapsed. With the vital Hormuz route closed, global energy markets and maritime shipping are being pushed into a red alert state.
