Stephen Chow’s “Kung Fu Women’s Football” has sparked a split in online reputation—one camp gives it full marks, while another outright rejects it entirely.
As a longtime fan who’s watched every Stephen Chow film, to be honest, after watching the trailer I really couldn’t muster any desire to want to see it.
Over the years, what I’ve loved has never really been the works Stephen Chow directed—it’s been the movies where Zhou Xingchi personally appears on screen and acts. Even if it only has one or two shots of him, I’d still rush in blindly. But films that he only directed and didn’t personally appear in often struggle to meet my expectations.
At the end of the day, it’s because I expected too much from him, which makes disappointment more likely. Still, if you look back at all his works, there was controversy right at the start after release, and only a few years later did the reputation turn around. Maybe that’s Zhou Xingchi’s fate—his life is his most精彩 movie!
No matter whether it’s good or not, I’ll still go support Stephen Chow—that’s just my nostalgia~
