Golden Finance reported that on July 12, a miner used a Bitaxe ASIC miner with only a single-chip setup and hashrate of about 1 TH/s, and successfully mined a Bitcoin block 957,382 yesterday, earning the full block reward of 3.1382 BTC exclusively, worth about $200k.
The device was not overclocked. It mined via a zero-fee Public Pool mining pool, retaining 100% of the block subsidy and transaction fees. Its effective share difficulty reached 294.14T, more than twice the 133.87T required to find a block.
Estimated at 1 TH/s, it would take an average of about 16k years to be able to mine a block; this incident is extremely rare, but its daily winning probability is still about 53 times higher than buying a lottery ticket.
