China Earthquake Administration carries out emergency response to a 5.0-magnitude earthquake in Gaoxian County of Yibin City, Sichuan

According to the official measurements of the China Earthquake Networks Center, at 6:12 on July 8, 2026, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred in Gaoxian County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province (28.52°N, 104.68°E). The earthquake’s epicentral depth was 8 kilometers. After the earthquake, the China Earthquake Administration quickly initiated a Level III emergency response. Wang Kun, Party Secretary and Director of the China Earthquake Administration, deployed emergency response and handling work immediately, set up a video link with the China Earthquake Networks Center and the Sichuan Provincial Earthquake Administration, and instructed relevant units to strengthen monitoring and tracking of seismic conditions, carry out joint deliberations, and report relevant information in a timely manner. At present, the Sichuan Provincial Earthquake Administration has dispatched a field working team to the affected area to assist local governments in emergency response and handling work.
