Iran accused the United States on Thursday (the 9th) of attacking two of its military sites, including the location of a nuclear power plant, but the United States denied it, saying it did not launch an attack on Iran that day. U.S. officials also said that U.S.-Iran representatives continued technical talks on the nuclear issue.

Iranian state media claimed that the two military targets in two different Iranian cities were hit by multiple airstrikes late Thursday evening.

Citing Ehsan Jahanian, deputy minister for politics and security of the Bushehr province, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) accused that hostile artillery shells from the United States and Israel struck a military installation near Bushehr, the province’s largest city, where Iran’s nuclear power plant is located on the outskirts of the city.

IRIB, Iran’s national radio and television, reported that in Konarak, a southern strategic port city on the west coast of the Oman Sea, a naval military zone was hit twice by hostile aircraft and explosions occurred. The government immediately dispatched emergency rescue personnel and security forces to the scene, and is investigating the scope and details of the attack.

However, U.S. media cited officials in Washington as saying that the U.S. military did not carry out any further strikes on Thursday and has adopted a strategy of striking first and then pausing to avoid escalation, while keeping room for diplomatic mediation. However, the United States also retains a list of strike targets, ready to carry out strikes if necessary, but for now will let diplomatic means lead the situation.

In addition, U.S. officials said that although U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a new round of retaliatory strikes against Iran this week, U.S.-Iran representatives still continued technical talks on the nuclear issue, in hopes of resolving the problem through diplomatic channels.

Washington insists it is still committed to finding a solution. Technical talks are ongoing, and Iran will never be able to have nuclear weapons.

The official also pointed out that the memorandum of understanding reached between the U.S. and Iran is tied to performance, criticizing Iran for failing to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz and for actions such as attacking merchant ships, which constitute unacceptable failures to meet obligations.
