Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in the early hours of the 8th, condemning the U.S. decision to cancel its temporary measures suspending sanctions on Iranian oil sales. It said the move openly violates the Iran-U.S. Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and warned that necessary action would be taken in response.

The statement noted that the U.S. move openly violates Article 10 of the Iran-U.S. Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, and that the U.S. should bear responsibility for the relevant consequences.

The statement also said that just recently, the Iran and U.S. sides signed the memorandum of understanding, after which the U.S. immediately announced the cancellation of the general license for the sale of Iranian oil, among other items, issued on June 21—once again showing that the U.S. government is not trustworthy. The statement further accused the United States of repeatedly “directly violating or violating the provisions of the memorandum through actions by Israel in Lebanon.”

The statement said that since Iran signed the memorandum on June 18, it has been working in good faith to fulfill its commitments. However, the U.S. not only violates its commitments, but also makes excuses under various pretexts.

The statement warned that Iran will take the actions it deems necessary to safeguard its interests and national security. (Xinhua News Agency)
