Norway beat Brazil 2-1 and advanced— they’ve already proven they’re not afraid of any big club
Brothers, Norway reaching the quarterfinals is absolutely not luck. In the round of 16, they beat the five-time champions Brazil 2-1.
In that match, Haaland scored twice. Norway’s whole squad’s tactical execution was extremely strong— after winning the ball in midfield, they immediately threaded it through to Haaland, and the high-pressure press had enough intensity. Facing Norway’s defense, Brazil’s luxurious attacking line could only score one goal all game. Not only did Norway win, they also suppressed Brazil in possession.
Norway’s head coach Solbakken said: “Over the past three weeks, Norway has been boiling with excitement. We just wanted to put our focus on our own performance.” He made it clear that all the pressure is on the England side. Norway has created history— this is their first World Cup appearance since 1998, and also the first time in team history they’ve reached the quarterfinals. They have no burden at all— if they lose, that’s normal; if they win, it’s a historic breakthrough.
England is the complete opposite. They’re one of the favorites to win the title, carrying the pressure of “must advance.” Bryan Robson said: “England is definitely one of the title favorites, but Norway will be a difficult match.”
A team with no burden facing a team carrying pressure—this kind of psychological gap is often magnified in knockout matches. If Norway can truly pull off an upset and knock England out, they’ll become one of the biggest dark horses in World Cup history. They’ve already beaten Brazil, won history, and won respect. The rest is all surprises.
