The Hong Kong Observatory said that Signal No. 1 was issued at 7:40 a.m., and the Observatory updated at 4:45 p.m. that during daytime today, the tropical depression’s circulation remains rather loose. It is generally taking a westward track moving toward waters south of Hainan Island, keeping a considerable distance from Hong Kong. Signal No. 1 will remain in force at least until 12:00 noon tomorrow. Subsequently, the Observatory will assess whether it is necessary to issue the No. 3 strong wind signal, taking into account changes in the intensity of the tropical cyclone, the distance between its strong wind belt and the mouth of the Pearl River, and local wind conditions.

The Observatory said that there are rough seas. Members of the public should stay away from the shoreline and stop all water-based activities, and should pay attention to the latest weather updates.

Today’s high of 33°C with ultraviolet rays at an extremely high level

The Observatory expects that today in Hong Kong will be generally cloudy, with a few showers. At the beginning, there may be thunderstorms in some areas. During the day, there will be sunshine and sultry weather for some periods. In urban areas, the maximum temperature will be around 33°C. Winds will be from the east to southeast at strength 4, at times 5.

The forecast maximum ultraviolet index for today is 11, with exposure levels in the “extremely high” category.

Tropical cyclone expected to keep a distance of 400 km or more from Hong Kong

The Observatory said that the tropical cyclone will move generally toward the area from Hainan Island to the Gulf of Tonkin today and tomorrow (the 3rd), keeping a distance of 400 km or more from Hong Kong. Affected by it, Hong Kong’s winds will strengthen on Friday, with rough seas and a gradual increase in squally showers; in some areas, rainfall may be heavier. Due to terrain effects, strong winds may blow over some high grounds for a short period.

Winds quite strong over the weekend; South China affected by a low-pressure trough next week

On Friday, it will be generally cloudy, with a few squally showers and thunderstorms. Showers will gradually increase, with heavier rain in some areas, and rough seas. Temperatures will range from 27 to 31°C. Winds will be from the east to southeast at strength 5, with occasional strength 6 further offshore. Later, winds over high grounds may reach strength 7.

On Saturday (the 4th), it will be cloudy, with squally showers and thunderstorms. Showers may sometimes be heavy, with rough seas. Temperatures will range from 26 to 29°C. Winds will be from south to southeast at strength 4 to 5. At first, winds further offshore will be strength 6, and over high grounds may reach strength 7.
