Sun Hing Group discovered several months ago that its computer systems were hacked and damaged. On March 23, the Privacy Commissioner’s Office received reports of a data breach incident from the relevant organizations and launched an investigation. Based on the latest information provided by the relevant organizations, it shows that personal data of possibly more than 921,000 individuals may have been leaked. This may include the names, titles, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of approximately 920,000 customers, as well as the names/titles, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, identity document numbers, bank account numbers, salaries, and other personal data of about 1,000 employees, service/product/supplier personnel.

In addition, the Office said that, according to the latest information provided by the relevant organizations, it shows that personal data of possibly about 1,050,000 individuals may have been maliciously encrypted, which may include personal data of approximately 1,045,000 customers. The Privacy Commissioner’s Office has initiated an investigation into the incident under established mechanisms, and the investigation is still ongoing.
