The Spanish National Meteorological Agency posted on social media that June 2026 was the second-hottest June since 1961, when relevant weather records began, following June 2025. According to preliminary data released by the Spanish National Meteorological Agency, the average temperature in Spain’s mainland in June was about 3.2°C higher than the same period in previous years. Prolonged high temperatures have brought significant public health impacts. Estimated by Spain’s daily mortality monitoring system, the total number of deaths related to high temperatures in Spain during the entire month of June reached 1,029, exceeding 1,000 in June 2017 and the highest value for that month since comparable records began in 2015.
