Many foreigners come to China for medical treatment and, right away, they look for the “International Department.”

Let me say something that might offend people: in many cases, it’s really not necessary.
In China, foreigners can actually go to many hospitals’ regular outpatient clinics for care—you don’t have to go through the International Department. The International Department has a better environment, more English services, and a more comfortable process, but the prices are often much higher too.
If you can accept the pace of regular outpatient care, bring your medical records and reports, along with a translator—or find a reliable medical escort—many issues can be handled just as well.
What’s the difference?
There’s no access to China’s medical insurance.
You have to handle communication yourself.
The process isn’t as “VIP.”
You have to take care of everything yourself, including lining up, registration, and tests.
But what you get in return is spending far less money on all the needless costs.
Don’t treat the “International Department” as the only entry point for foreigners.
Sometimes, it’s simply a more expensive entry point.
