OpenAI reorganizes its security team; the former head of the security system has left

According to Beating monitoring, Johannes Heidecke, OpenAI’s former head of the safety systems, has announced his resignation to employees. At the same time, OpenAI is adjusting the structure of its safety team, further combining the safety team with the research team. Mia Glaese, the former research vice president and alignment lead, will be promoted to vice president of research and security and will be responsible for coordinating the relevant work. All of OpenAI’s safety teams will report to her going forward. Previously, Saachi Jain, who led the safety team, will temporarily serve as head of the safety systems and report to Glaese. OpenAI Chief Research Officer Mark Chen said that, as the frequency of training models has accelerated significantly and the product release cycle has been noticeably shortened as a result, coordinating security has become more difficult than before. OpenAI hopes that, with the new organizational structure, the safety team can be involved earlier in model, product, and release decision-making.
