OpenAI responds to the issue of unclear consumption prompts in its high-compute mode: has urgently reset Codex and ChatGPT Work quotas
BlockBeats message, July 11, OpenAI Codex core member Tibo posted on the X platform saying that earlier it was too easy for users to enable a high-compute mode without sufficiently explaining how it affects usage quotas; a large-scale redesign of the desktop app made common features like chat and projects harder to find; and excessive promotional focus on ChatGPT Work led some Codex users to mistakenly believe Codex will be phased out in the future. In addition, the new version also caused issues with parts of multi-agent workflows, plugin functionality, and other experiences.
In response to the above issues, OpenAI has rolled out the first batch of improvement measures, including adjusting default settings and the model selector to prevent users from misusing high-cost configurations; fixing multiple plugin submission problems; optimizing how Codex is presented in the product, and addressing certain desktop experience issues.
In addition, over the past 24 hours, OpenAI has been collecting user feedback, analyzing usage patterns, and communicating with users. Although the market has shown strong interest in GPT 5.6 Sol as well as the ChatGPT Work web and mobile versions, OpenAI also acknowledged that this update has multiple problems.
So far, two rounds of Codex and ChatGPT Work usage quota top-ups have been completed. The next, larger-scale update will go live next week. At that time, the chat and project features will return to the sidebar in a more familiar, customizable form, and the platform will also enhance the visibility of usage quotas and reset times, further clarifying the respective use cases for ChatGPT Work and Codex.
