High-compute mode has caused user confusion, and OpenAI urgently resets Codex and ChatGPT Work usage limits

Deep Tide TechFlow update. On July 11, Tibo, a core member of OpenAI Codex, posted that previously it was too easy for users to enable the high-compute mode, but it failed to sufficiently explain how that mode affects usage limits. This led to issues with some multi-agent workflows, plugin functionality, and other experiences, and even caused some users to mistakenly believe that Codex will be phased out in the future.

The first batch of emergency improvements has already been rolled out, including adjusting default settings and the model selector to prevent users from misusing high-cost configurations. Codex and ChatGPT Work usage quotas have been reset twice already. The next update is expected to go live next week. Conversation and project features will return to the sidebar in a more familiar and customizable form, and visibility into high-compute mode usage quotas and reset times will be enhanced to further clarify the respective use cases for ChatGPT Work and Codex.
