On June 30 local time, AWS, Amazon’s cloud business, announced that it will invest $1 billion to set up a new division dedicated to providing forward-deployed engineers services—dispatching engineering teams to client companies to help businesses adopt AI software faster. The new division will be led by Vice President Francessca Vasquez, former Vice President of Frontier AI Engineering and Services at Amazon AWS. Initially, the plan is to staff several thousand engineers, with each deployment lasting about 45 days, aiming to compress the AI deployment cycle from months to days. The first customers include the NBA (National Basketball Association) and electronics company Ricoh.
