Coinbase engineer Brock Miller posted that after eight years working at Coinbase, he left last month and joined AI company Anthropic as a member of the technical team (Member of Technical Staff), working to help advance cutting-edge AI technologies. Miller said that over the past 12 months, he personally saw his software engineering work change dramatically due to AI, and believes this shift is still in a very early stage. He also said he remains optimistic about Coinbase and the broader crypto industry, and will continue to follow its development in the future.

Miller’s choice is quite interesting—he even went all-in on AI at an early stage, which suggests he’s betting on the infrastructure layer of the next ten years, not the application-bubble in the near term.

From exchanges to Anthropic—it’s quite a span. But he’s right: AI is already reshaping the workflows of software engineering, and crypto practitioners really should think about how to integrate it.

After eight years at Coinbase, a veteran has switched to the AI track—this signal is pretty clear. It’s not that they don’t have faith in crypto; it’s that this AI wave is even stronger, and engineers voting with their feet is the most honest kind of evidence.
