Golden Finance reported on July 11, citing Israel’s public broadcaster Channel 10, that at the request of the United States, the Israeli government has ordered the military to temporarily hold off on “sensitive” military operations in southern Lebanon. The report said the instruction will remain in effect until further notice, depending on developments in the U.S.-Iran situation and the progress of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon. The report said that the United States has recently been preoccupied with military confrontation with Iran and is worried that Israeli actions could lead to a further escalation of the situation. The report cited a source from Israel’s security establishment as saying that the Israel side is currently staying restrained at the request of the U.S. The report also said that Israel’s forces are expected to begin withdrawing as early as next week from two areas within the so-called “security zone” they have delineated in southern Lebanon. The withdrawal arrangement is part of a framework agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon in late June this year in Washington, the U.S. capital. The two sides are also expected to resume negotiations next week in Rome, the Italian capital. (Xinhua)
