BlockBeats, July 11, according to CBS, a senior U.S. official said Iranian officials privately told advisers to the Trump administration that Iran firing at commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz was a “mistake,” and that the incident came from a “wrong faction of hardliners” that made the mistake of trying to sabotage the negotiations.

The report says Iran stated that it hopes to continue the talks. The White House wants Iran to publicly acknowledge this mistake. The Trump administration believes the attacks on commercial vessels violate the ceasefire arrangements agreed by both sides.

U.S. officials said Trump has instructed a team made up of Vice President Vance, Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, U.S. Middle East envoy Witkoff, and Secretary of State Rubio to keep pushing the negotiations forward. The related meetings will be held in Oman. U.S. officials said that if Iran continues hostile actions, the U.S. will respond by using military and economic measures.
