CryptoWire News, citing a report by CBS, said that senior U.S. officials revealed that Iranian officials privately told advisors to the Trump administration that Iran firing at commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz was a “mistake.” The report said the attacks stemmed from the “hardliners’ faction error” who were trying to sabotage the negotiations. The Iranian side said it hopes to continue the talks. The White House wants Iran to publicly acknowledge the mistake. The Trump administration believes the attacks on commercial ships violate the ceasefire arrangements between the two sides. A U.S. official said that Trump has instructed a team consisting of Vice President Vance, Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, U.S. Middle East envoy Witkoff, and Secretary of State Rubio to continue pushing forward the negotiations. The talks will be held in Oman. U.S. officials said that if Iran continues hostile actions, the U.S. will respond using military and economic measures.
