Golden Finance reported that on July 11, international market services firm Kpler released data on July 10 showing that on July 9, the number of vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz fell from 30 the previous day to 22, marking a decline in the strait’s transit volume for the second consecutive day. Kpler said the data includes both commercial and non-commercial vessels, with commercial vessel traffic slightly higher than non-commercial vessel traffic. “U.S.-Iran military confrontation has escalated again, weakening market confidence that diplomatic efforts can bring stability to the situation in the near term.” After the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding was reached, there are mainly two transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz: the northern route controlled by Iran and the southern route near the Oman side, with U.S. forces providing transit assistance on the southern route. Kpler’s data shows that, amid recent ship-attack incidents in waters near Oman affecting shipping operations, shipping operators continue to favor routes on the Iranian side; on July 9, only 1 vessel transited on the Oman-side route.
