Golden Finance reported on July 11 that Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Qalibaf, said Iran has never sought war, but will never yield to external pressure. Qalibaf said that before the recent outbreak of hostilities, the United States, Israel, and NATO believed they could force Iran to surrender within days, but ultimately failed to achieve their goals. He said the U.S. sought a ceasefire because it was under economic, political, and public-opinion pressure. He emphasized that Iran does not trust the United States, and only by being fully prepared for war would it have the right to negotiate with the U.S. If the U.S. “breaks the memorandum of understanding between the two sides,” Iran will be ready to make “comprehensive defense” preparations and firmly uphold the country’s interests. Qalibaf said the international community hopes to end the war, but everyone should be clear that the conflict will not end with Iran’s surrender.
